Students will be introduced to the medical specialty of dermatology and subspecialties.  Students will have the opportunity to explore different conditions and diseases.  

  1. Understand what is dermatology  

  2. Learn what is a dermatologist: education, type of care provided, subspecialties, salary 

  3. Research dermatological skin conditions and diseases

ACTIVITY ONE: Understanding the Skin 

Review the Crash Course videos, The Integumentary System, Part 1 and 2.  Create a poster/model of what you have learned.  Make sure to include the names of the different layers and other parts that make up the integumentary system (pores, veins, etc.).  Also include a short description what each part does and why they are important.  

ACTIVITY TWO: Identifying Skin Conditions 

Review the video "How to Identify Skin Conditions".  Take the quiz to check for understanding about common skin conditions that are found in dermatology.  Skin Condition Quiz    

ACTIVITIY THREE: Skin Education 

Watch How to Identify Skin Conditions &Why do we have to wear sunscreen? - Kevin P. Boyd create a social media campaign to distribute relevant information about sunscreen and cancer screening to your community.  Students are to create 3-5 posts using Canva or other like program based on their social media platform of choice.  Topics to consider:  Difference in SPF, ABCDE of cancer identification, why use sunscreen, who should use sunscreen, etc.
