First Aid

Description

This unit is designed to introduce students to fundamental first-aid skills and concepts. Students will learn about common injuries and basic first-aid techniques and understand how to respond to emergencies. The unit combines instruction and real-life scenarios to ensure students gain practical knowledge and skills.

Objectives

  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to distinguish between emergent and non-emergent situations, identifying at least three examples of each and explaining the appropriate responses.

  2. Students will be able to demonstrate basic first aid techniques, such as treating minor cuts, burns, or fractures, and will successfully complete a skills assessment in a simulated environment.

  3. Students will understand the procedures for contacting Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including knowing when to call 911 and how to effectively communicate necessary information to dispatchers, as demonstrated through a role-playing activity.

Student Introduction

Welcome to our next unit, where we’ll be learning about a crucial set of skills that everyone should have—First Aid. First aid is the immediate help given to someone who’s injured or suddenly becomes ill, and knowing what to do in these situations can make a huge difference.

In this unit, we’re going to dive into real-life first-aid scenarios and explore skills. Let's start with this fun and informative video,  Science for kids - First Aid Training | Body Parts | Experiments for kids | Operation Ouch (England Edition).  Just remember England's emergency number is different from America.  Our emergency number is 911. :)
