This unit is designed to help 8th-grade students understand the importance of preventative care and how it plays a crucial role in maintaining long-term physical and mental health. Throughout the lessons, students will learn about preventative care strategies such as balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, proper hygiene, and responsible technology use. By engaging in hands-on activities, discussions, and reflective exercises, students will develop an awareness of daily habits that contribute to overall well-being and learn how to create healthier routines to prevent future health problems.  

Objectives

  1. Understand the Concept of Preventative Care: Define preventative care and explain why it is important for long-term health and well-being. 
  2. Develop Healthy Eating and Exercise Plans: Learn the principles of balanced nutrition and regular physical activity, and apply this knowledge to design personalized weekly plans that promote healthy living. 
  3. Practice Good Hygiene: Understand the role of personal hygiene in preventing the spread of illness and demonstrate effective hygiene practices through creative skits. 
  4. Reflect on the Impact of Technology: Evaluate the effects of screen time on mental and physical health, and participate in a Digital Detox to explore the benefits of reducing technology use. 
  5. Engage in Thoughtful Discussions: Use a Socratic seminar to critically examine the pros and cons of technology in daily life, fostering deeper reflection on how to create a healthy balance between technology use and other activities.
