Substance Abuse Awareness

Description

This unit will explore Substance Abuse Awareness, a nationally observed awareness that educates individuals on the negative affect's substance. These substances include drugs and alcohol that lead to the affects a person’s brain and behavior that leads to the inability to control the use of legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, vaping, and illicit drugs. Students will explore and learn the types of substances, consequences of substance abuse, risk factors and prevention strategies. This unit integrates concepts giving students the visual representation of what will happen to your organs when using substance unproperly. Students will learn the awareness in which helps people understand addiction. 

Objectives

  1. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to define substance abuse and explain its impact on individuals and communities, demonstrating their understanding through a brief written summary or class discussion. 

  2. Students will differentiate between prescription and non-prescription drugs, providing examples of each and explaining the legal and health implications associated with their use, as demonstrated through a sorting activity or quiz. 

  3. Students will identify and describe at least three dangers associated with substance abuse, such as physical, mental, and social consequences, and present their findings in a group discussion or poster presentation. 

  4. Students will analyze common myths and facts about substance abuse, accurately distinguishing between the two and justifying their reasoning during a class debate or myth-busting activity.
