Objectives

Emergency Medicine: Learning about the Emergency Room and Common Careers within the Department

This workshop covers what emergency medicine is and teaches about the fast-paced environment that exists within emergency rooms. It covers three main careers that are found with emergency medicine: Emergency Medicine Physician, an ER nurse, and EMT/Paramedics. These three positions are defined, required training is covered and salary range and location are addressed. The workshop closes with a quick look at UCSF Fresno Emergency Medicine Residency Program and provides highlights and links to the website for additional information. 

  1. Illustrate a greater understanding about the field of emergency medicine and career paths within the department  

  2. Describe three career paths that are connected to Emergency Rooms 

  3. Recognize education and training required to obtain licensure within those careers 

  4. Examine the UCSF Fresno Emergency Medicine Residency Program to gain a greater  understanding of the opportunities here in the Central Valley within this field 

  5. If the documentary from within the resources is used: this will illustrate the steps that were taken by patriarchs within medicine to identify a need for Emergency Rooms and the drive to keep pushing until this specialty field was created.
