Activity Options

1. Activity: Investigating Dental Career Salaries: In groups of 4-5 research and analyze the salary information for the following dental professions. For each role, gather data on average salaries, salary ranges, and how these figures may vary by location, experience, and other factors:

  • Dental Assistants
  • Dental Hygienists
  • Dental Laboratory Technicians
  • General Dentists
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
  • Orthodontists
  • Prosthodontists
  • Dental Specialists (e.g., periodontists, endodontists)

Consider the following aspects in your research:

  • Average Salary: Determine the median or average annual salary for each profession.
  • Salary Range: Identify the typical salary range for entry-level and experienced professionals.
  • Geographic Variations: Explore how salaries differ in various regions or cities.
  • Experience and Education: Examine how experience, certifications, and additional training affect earning potential.
  • Type of Practice: Look into how working in different settings (private practice, public health, corporate chains) impacts salaries.

Compile your findings into a comprehensive overview that highlights the key salary trends for these dental careers.

2. Dental LookBook Activity Make a copy of the template or feel free to create your own using the example given. Either students work in small groups to pick a section to create several helpful resources or students work on their own to create a helpful resource look book. Students should research and provide sources to back-up information provided. Who would be the target audience and for what purpose should be decided before starting. Dig in and have fun!
