Student Introduction

TIn today’s increasingly diverse world, understanding and appreciating cultural diversity is essential. This unit will guide students through an exploration of cultural identity, both within their own lives and in the broader global community. Through activities such as Cultural Show and Tell, students will reflect on their unique cultural backgrounds and share meaningful stories, objects, and traditions. Next, students will research different countries, uncovering unique aspects of language, customs, and health practices, which will enhance their global awareness. Finally, students will take a closer look at the specific cultural groups in Fresno, creating “Patient-Centered Care Guides” that outline key cultural beliefs and practices that healthcare providers should understand. Together, these projects will provide students with valuable insights into the role of culture in shaping individual experiences and society, fostering respect, empathy, and a commitment to culturally sensitive interactions in all areas of life.
